FAQs

What is the best source of advice on the different cruise lines?

The book that's alway at my elbow is Berlitz Cruising & Cruise Ships by Douglas Ward. It contains data and descriptions of every cruise ship and cruise line that is sold in the U.S. The 2020 edition is a 760-page paperback that sells for less than $25, sometimes with a free online version.

Which destination is likely to provide the best values next year?

Probably Australia. Both at the government and private levels, they seemed determined to win back the tourists who are delaying visits to Australia due to the wildfires. Temporarily reducing prices and adding amenities is among the most expedient ways of doing this. Also, the Chinese health problems are likely to cause more cruise ships to bypass Chinese destinations and visit Australia. This will intensify competition even more.

Which are thet top-rated cruise lines?

In the U.S., they're generally considered to be Seabourn, Silversea, Crystal, Regent, Cunard, and Viking Ocean. A second-tier would include Ponant, Oceania, Azamara. and Windstar. These lists are changing all the time.
